1906年7月25日、マサチューセッツ州ケンブリッジ生まれ（～1970年5月11日）のアルトサックス奏者。デューク・エリントン・ビッグバンドでのソロ演奏で知られる。ベニー・カーターとともにビッグバンド時代の絶対的なアルト・サックス奏者と目されている。
